Imagine a River Hut Library near the Headwaters of the South Platte River

The Rocky Mountain Land Library will have several libraries spread across Buffalo Peaks Ranch, each housed in one of several historic structures, and each dedicated to a specific topic. One of our first such libraries will be focused on rivers, water, and angling.

The River Hut Library (inspired by Great Britain’s fishing hut tradition) will be a book-lined space on the banks of the Middle Fork of the South Platte River, with ample room for classes and gatherings. We’ll host an annual schedule of riparian programs, some designed by the RMLL, but many more led by a full array of program partners from Colorado’s water community, and beyond.

There will be plenty of room around the River Hut Library for outdoor classes, and fly-fishing instruction. The RMLL is also in the midst of planning a fully accessible trail from the Hut to the banks of the South Platte River. We have thousands of books that highlight the global importance of water as an increasingly limited resource. It’s our hope that Buffalo Peaks Ranch, and the gold-medal waters of the South Platte River, will provide a learning landscape for years to come—a place that will inspire a healthy, joy-filled relationship to rivers and water.
